Lemon Bay Homeschool Explorers is an all inclusive, nature based cooperation, with a focus on Florida history and science (mostly), and the idea of two very excited homeschool mommas!

On a warm, sunny Florida day floating in the pool with my dear friend Amy, we started lightly chatting about how much we loved our old Co-Ops (pre-COVID) and how it would be so nice to have something like that again. We chatted about how we wish we would have time to run one ourselves or find away to convince others to run one. We wanted it to be simple, yet educational, include an outdoor exploration space, classes guided by parents (not hired teachers), have a nice long lunch period for kids, and just have the weekly consistency that made co-ops so appealing. We laughed and tossed the idea aside as just a fun fantasy.​

Later that night, and the days to follow, I started thinking that maybe we could make a co-op happen. So I started thinking more, coming up with a light plan, and kept talking to her about it again, and again, and again until we both were decided you know what we can make this happen! Few months later we had started to really get the ball rolling! We selected Team Leads, followed by Teachers, we picked a location, and the next thing I knew our first semester of Co-Op was right around the corner!

Lemon Bay Homeschool Explorers is really the brain child of two very busy, working, homeschooling moms who love to see their kids engage in a group environment, love to watch them explore nature and our desire to give that to them. 

​

Our hope is that this Co-Op will continue yearly with two semesters one in fall and one in spring. We hope it can help us, as families and life learners, find new ways to explore Florida, its history, and nature. That each of our classes will add something to every families homeschooling experience. That this will grow and be something fun and wonderful for our local homeschool families.

We picked Lemon Bay Environmental Park because it is home to three of Florida's natural ecosystems creating a perfect outdoor classroom and it offered two indoor classroom spaces for our purpose.

We hope that this Nature based co-op will thrive as we are just starting this adventure and hope that with each semester it grows into a wonderful environment for our local families.
